Parliament rejects conditional carbon emissions target

The European Parliament has voted against an amended draft resolution on EU climate policy, which suggested a conditional target to decrease greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent. The initial proposal, drafted by Dutch Green MEP Bas Eickhout, suggested an unconditional 30 per cent cut.

The plenary vote, held in Strasbourg on 5 July, rejected the proposal by 258 votes in favour, 347 against and 63 abstentions.
