Radioactive waste proposal passed by ministers

European member states have agreed to sign up to a pan-European regulation on radioactive waste management.

A proposal to standardise and improve the way radioactive waste is managed and disposed of across Europe was adopted by the Council of Ministers on 19 July. The directive covers waste created through research, medicine and industry as well as nuclear power stations.
