Commission clarifies rules on radioactive contamination of food

Europe’s Ombudsman, Nikiforos Diamandouros, has welcomed the European Commission's clarification of rules on the maximum permitted levels of radioactive contamination for foodstuffs in the EU

In the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan, the Ombudsman had asked the Commission to explain its position on food safety. This followed complaints from several citizens about a lack of information on changes made to the maximum permitted levels.
