Commission wants further cuts in fluorinated gas emissions

The European Commission is planning tighter controls on emissions of the fluorinated gases which have been identified as powerful contributors to global warming.

It launched a public consultation on 26 September to identify the optimal strategies for reducing emissions. This follows the adoption of a Commission review which concluded that the EU’s existing Regulation on fluorinated gases (‘F-gases’) is having a significant impact. But without further measures, F-gas emissions are expected to remain at today’s levels in the long term.
