Donald Dingwell is last ERC secretary-general

Canadian geoscientist to draw talent from outside Europe

German–Canadian geoscientist Donald Dingwell has been appointed as the last secretary-general of the European Research Council, the EU’s funding body for basic research.

The 53-year-old will hold the position in Brussels from 1 September 2011 until December 2013, when the role will be abolished. The job has been vacant since the economist Andreu Mas-Colell, now a minister in Catalonia, gave up the post in September last year.
