Public procurement policies can promote growth, say MEPs

Members of the Socialist & Democrat group in the European Parliament are backing a report proposing changes in public procurement processes to help small businesses.

A report agreed by Parliament’s internal market committee on 26 September calls for the criteria used when buying goods and services to go beyond the cheapest price and consider economic, social and environmental benefits. The proposals are due to go before the full Parliament in October.
