Four of the EU's leading universities are not too bothered about their position in international rankings and are unlikely to adapt their strategies to improve their standing.
When Research Europe questioned the universities of Sheffield, Stockholm, Utrecht and Zurich, they said they were interested in rankings, but would not use them to actively change policies.
