Some of Europe’s science academies have offered to talk to the Turkish government following its decision to turn the country’s independent science academy, Tüba, into a state-controlled institute.
Academia Europaea, a collection of academies that sees itself as the Academy of Europe, plans to write to Turkey’s president, Abdullah Gül. However, rather than chastise the government’s actions the group wants to offer help to create harmonious relations between the newly formed science ministry and the academy.
