Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, the research commissioner, is on a round trip of the United States to promote Horizon 2020 and increased collaboration between the US and Europe.
Geoghegan-Quinn visited the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on 18 January to talk about EU-US collaboration on research to overcome global problems. Geoghegan-Quinn said that climate change, space weather and coastal hazards are crucial issues for the safety and well-being of both countries, and that collaboration in these fields should increase.
