Potocnik slams ministers over conservation

Environment commissioner Janez Potocnik has criticised EU ministers for lacking ambition on biodiversity protection and resource efficiency. At a Council of Ministers meeting held in Brussels on 19 December, environment ministers backed away from stating the importance of biodiversity in farming reforms—a move that could otherwise have allowed the European Commission to use more money from the EU’s €53.5-billion annual agriculture budget to fund biodiversity protection.
