Academy suggests disbanding France’s evaluation agency
France’s Academy of Sciences has suggested research evaluation agency AERES should be scrapped, in a report that calls for urgent reform of the research systems. The academy says the agency, introduced by the former centre-right government, is unpopular and evaluations should instead be conducted by universities and research organisations. These calls come as the socialist government is consulting on how to reform higher education and research next year.
