MEPs, finance ministers at odds over 2012 budget requests

Members of the European Parliament have pointed out that national finance ministers are trying to reject funding requests put forward by their own governments in the ongoing tussle over next year’s EU budget.

The EU needs an additional €8.6 billion in 2013 to cover leftover expenses from 2012. However, cash-strapped member states have threatened to veto this proposal, saying they do not want to provide additional funding.
