German animal rights activists are challenging three patents on genetically modifying chimpanzees that were granted by the European Patent Office (EPO), ScienceInsider reports.
The activists have filed a challenge to one patent granted to US-based Intrexon for a system that can switch genes on and off in chimpanzees and other animals, according to the article. Challenges to two others are reportedly planned.
