Commissioner defends plan to scrap easy funding access for emerging countries

Research commissioner Máire Geoghegan-Quinn has told diplomats that the Commission will stick to its proposal of removing some countries from special access to research funding.

The commissioner briefed the Brussels diplomatic corps yesterday (27 November) in Brussels on plans for managing international research activities under Horizon 2020, the next research framework programme. Geoghegan-Quinn reiterated a change proposed in a strategy document in September (see RET, 18 Sep 2012), which would exclude certain countries from being eligible for automatic funding.
