EU leaders fail to agree long-term budget

European heads of state ended last week’s negotiations on the long-term budget from 2014 until 2020 without agreement, after failing to reach a compromise between the 27 member states.

Talks between leaders in Brussels ended around 5pm on Friday when the president of the Council, Herman van Rompuy, called a press conference to announce no agreement had been reached. “We will need some more time to finalise this solution,” said van Rompuy.
