Patent law harmonisation consultation announced

The European Patent Office has announced the launch of a consultation on the international harmonisation of patent law between Europe, Japan and the US.

At a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, last month the Tegernsee group, which includes representatives of patent offices from the three regions, announced that its members would gather input on four specific issues. These are: the length of the grace period; 18-month patent publication; the treatment of conflicting applications; and how to deal with prior user rights.
