EU Court of Auditors finds research costs overpaid
The European Court of Auditors has found a 3 per cent error rate for payments made for research programmes in 2011, mainly due to participants declaring higher costs than were actually incurred. In its 2011 annual report the court states that the errors seen in payments for research projects are typical of programmes in which funds are managed by several institutions. This includes over-accounting for personnel costs, or research centres claiming for costs not linked to the EU-funded project.
