Competitiveness Council meeting under way

On the first day of a European Competitiveness Council meeting yesterday (December 10) in Brussels, ministers addressed patent reform, intellectual property protection and customs, the single market, state aid, and industrial policy.

The Council agreed to a patent reform package, which sets out legislation for a single patent across the EU but excluding Spain and Italy (see ‘Policymakers approve EU unitary patent rules’ above). It also agreed to launch an action plan for protecting intellectual property rights, to run from 2013-2017.
