Ministers endorse EU budget

EU policymakers have given provisional approval to an annual budget package for 2012 and 2013, following weeks of uncertainty surrounding next year’s finances. The proposal, which commits an additional €6 billion (£4.8bn) for 2012 and €133bn for 2013, was endorsed last week by representatives from the Council of Ministers and the Parliament’s budget committee. It must be formally approved before 31 December to prevent disruption to EU programmes including Framework 7.
