GMES on track to boost growth and jobs

Europe’s Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) programme is likely to bring significant economic benefits and could support 83,000 jobs in Europe by 2030, according to a report out this week.

The study, undertaken by the investment and consultancy firm Space Tec Partners, was commissioned by the European Commission to examine the economic effects of GMES. The goal of the study is to assess the potential market value of the satellite system following its expected operational launch in 2014.
