Europe needs to up its game in high-performance computing if it wants to be a world leader in the field, according to a plan released by the European Commission. The Commission wants to double annual spending on research into high-performance computing from €630 million to €1.2 billion before 2020. The plan was proposed on 15 February by digital agenda commissioner Neelie Kroes. The commissioner gave no details on how the spending target could be achieved.
