More women get ERC grants

Just more than 12 per cent of scientists selected by the European Research Council in its latest funding round, announced on 24 January, are women—an increase of 3 percentage points compared with the previous round. The area in which women applicants were most successful was molecular and structural biology and biochemistry, where they won 36 per cent of the grants. However no women at all were selected in applied life sciences and biotechnology, fundamental constituents of matter, systems and communications engineering, and Earth system science.
