ESO and Hubble top world ranking of most productive telescopes

The European Southern Observatory’s telescopes yielded data for 783 peer-reviewed science papers in 2011—about the same as the Hubble Space Telescope.

This is an all-time high in the organisation’s history, after a slight dip in 2009. ESO and Hubble telescopes lead the global ranking, ahead of NASA’s Chandra X-ray observatory and the Keck observatory in Hawaii.
