Stuff your bonus

Big respect to the eight young CNRS researchers who have told the French research agency where to put its offer of a ‘cash bonus’—and pointed out that the culture of research is not the culture of investment banking. “The bonus for scientific excellence is not a detail, it’s a symbol; its logic goes contrary to the foundations of our profession,” says the uncompromising statement from the eight. “Creating posts, increasing the number of promotions or improving career conditions would be much better uses for this public money.”
