Europe’s universities are planning an onslaught of applications to Horizon 2020, the next EU research funding programme, to compensate for national budget cuts.
Several speakers at the European University Association’s annual conference in Warwick last month said that universities believe Europe can bolster their ailing research budgets. An EUA member survey presented at the conference found that 74 per cent of participants plan to apply for more EU funding for their institutions in the next five years.
