French regions may have unduly used about €150 million of EU structural funds, threatening the funding of research centres, EurActiv reports.
Last year, a European Commission audit found that the Champagne-Ardenne region had violated EU rules by financing projects using more than 50 per cent of public funds. This prompted the Commission to withhold €14m of public aid, putting at risks projects such as Materalia, a competitiveness cluster that brings together academic researchers and businesses working on materials.
