Efpia, the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations, launched a tendering process to demonstrate the feasibility of a proposed system against counterfeit medicines.
The so-called European Medicines Verification System brings together drug suppliers, wholesalers and pharmacists to track medicines, in particular by using a unique serial number and a pan-European product verification database.
