EU uses more green energy and less from oil

The EU is using less energy from oil and more from renewables, according to a statistical analysis from the Commission’s energy directorate.

Figures show that the EU is producing a declining proportion of the world’s energy, down from 10 to 7 per cent between 1995 and 2010. There has been a fall in oil production from 18 per cent of the total EU energy production of 958 Mtoe (million tonnes of oil equivalent) in 1995 to 12 per cent of 837 Mtoe two years ago.
