The Ariane rocket launcher system completed its 50th successful consecutive launch on 2 August, when it was used to carry two telecommunications satellites in orbit. This was the system’s fourth launch of 2012.
The Ariane 5 launcher also broke its own performance record, carrying a total lift-off mass of 780 tonnes upon launch from the European Space Agency’s French Guiana rocket launch pad.
