Austria infiltrates US institutions in workplace ranking

The Research Center for Molecular Medicine (CeMM) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences ranks as the fourth best place to work in a global life-sciences laboratories ranking undertaken by The Scientist.

The centre is the only European representative among the top 10 institutions. US institutions dominate the remaining top spots in the poll that asked readers to survey their working environment according to 37 criteria.

CeMM is highlighted as having excellent research coupled with high job satisfaction for its 140 researchers. The researchers cited the proximity of the centre to the Vienna General Hospital as a strong resource, which provides tissue banks, reference libraries, and patient samples for research access.

Respondents also described a collaborative and fun atmosphere at the newly built centre that enhances scientific progress through a work hard, play hard approach.
