Austria promises boost to science universities

Austria plans to create an additional 500 study places at its universities of applied sciences as part of a €1-billion fund to boost higher education.

The additional places are supposed to become available in autumn 2013, after the Austrian research ministry launched a call for tenders on 6 August. The ministry said it would provide up to €4 million per university to create more study spaces in science, technology and engineering courses.
