Gender bias by leading scientific journals, say researchers

Nature should commission more female scientists to write in its News and Views section, Swedish researchers said in a letter published in the journal.

According to the researchers, who analysed the gender distribution of authors of News and Views articles in the journal, the proportion of women commissioned for the section is significantly lower than the proportion of women scientists overall. This effect is also seen in the Perspectives section of the rival journal Science, they say.
