Malcolm Harbour, Conservative MEP for the West Midlands and chairman of the European Parliament’s internal market committee, has called on EU governments to make more innovative use of their combined €2.3 trillion procurement budgets, in order to boost both innovation and economic growth.
“Procurement should be part of the mix in innovation policy,” Harbour said in an interview with Science Business. Recent actions in this area by the European Commission include procurement initiatives in healthcare, digital archives and robotics, the newsletter says.
