Merck plans to axe 1,100 jobs

Germany-based drugs manufacturer Merck is to cut about 1,100 staff, blaming weak sales, BBC News reports.

The cut would represent about 1 in 10 jobs at Merck, and is expected to be completed by 2015. Merck was quoted as saying that the cuts would be undertaken in as socially acceptable a way as possible, through voluntary redundancies and early retirement.
