The Padi Foundation supports marine research bids other funders might refuse

California-based non-profit group the Padi Foundation gives small grants to individuals looking to conduct research or educational activities related to ocean and coastal environments as well as diving physics and physiology. It considers bids from first-time grant applicants as well as more seasoned researchers.

The foundation is open to emergency grants year-round but officially opens its Research Grants scheme once every 12 months. This year the scheme opened on 1 November and it will close on 10 January 2020. The upper limit for funding is set at $12,000 (€10,890). In previous years most grants have been between $5,000 and $10,000. Andy Saxon, a director at the foundation, has some pointers for first-time applicants.
