European University Institute fellowships balance training and research

What sets the European University Institute’s Max Weber fellowships apart is the “complete academic freedom” they provide, says Balaraju Battu (pictured), who is in the first year of a two-year fellowship. 

“For most postdoc fellowships, the principal investigator will write the grants and you apply to work on them,” he says. “But with the EUI, the fellowship is completely free for you to work how you want to.”
