Sarkozy condemns GM violence

French president Nicolas Sarkozy has spoken out against the “obscurantism and violence” with which some members of the public have reacted to genetic modification of crops.

On 20 October, the president said that the government had listened to public concerns and had not allowed GM crops to be grown commercially. Nevertheless, he insisted, research would continue.
