University presidents condemn budget freeze

France’s Conference of University Presidents has said that the higher education budget for 2011 to 2012 has effectively been frozen, despite government statements.

In a statement published on 11 October, the CPU said that the HE budget had stagnated and was essentially a reduction in support given the toll of inflation and the extra costs faced by institutions since they were granted independence from the state in 2007.
