Gold medal for Insect immunity researcher

Biologist Jules Hoffmann has been awarded the gold medal, the top accolade of the CNRS. France’s top research agency on 22 September, for his work on the genetic and molecular principles underlying innate immunity in insects.

His work was said to have provided insights into the defence mechanisms that all organisms, including humans, employ against infectious agents.
