Fioraso faces unions over short-term contracts crisis

French research minister Geneviève Fioraso met unions on 21 November to discuss her plan to reduce the number of researchers on short-term contracts.

In a statement, she said a government investigation had found 8,400 researchers on short-term contracts in universities and 1,400 in research institutes. The plan is to reduce this number by 2,000 in 2013 by prioritising those stuck on short-term contracts when allocating civil service jobs, which include research posts.
