Bioinformatics platform unveiled

An experimental cloud computing platform, aimed at providing a powerful computing resource to researchers in biology, health and environmental research, has been developed in France.

The system, E-Biothon, will provide software applications and computing power to speed up work in genomics and proteomics, with an emphasis on developing treatments for genetic and neuromuscular diseases. Ecology and biodiversity are other areas of focus.

Three pilot applications, in epidemiology and biodiversity, are being run before the resource is opened up for wider use.
