France’s higher education spend reaches €28bn

Spending on higher education in France climbed slightly between 2010 and 2011, a snapshot of higher education and research published by the government reveals.

According to the report, higher education spending reached €28 billion in 2011, an increase of 0.7 per cent on the previous year and a 2.61 per cent increase compared with spending in 1980.

Domestic expenditure on R&D stood at €44.9bn in 2011, a slight increase on 2010’s spend of €43.4bn. This is 2.25 per cent of GDP.
