Strategic council to raise France’s research profile

A strategic council has been set up to guide France's research, knowledge transfer and innovation policies, while work has also begun on developing a national higher education strategy.

The 26-member strategic council will define a set of priorities to help France rebuild its capacity and raise its international profile in research and innovation. Its work should complement the national strategies for energy research, health and sustainable development, and build on the activities outlined in the Innovation 2030 and industry strategies.

As well as senior scientists from France and elsewhere, the council is composed of two members of parliament and a representative of the Association of French Regions. The council was officially launched by Geneviève Fioraso, the minister of higher education and research, and held its first meeting on 19 December 2013.
