Plans to set up an environmental research centre in Limonade, Haiti, have won backing from France's institute for development research.
The IRD’s president, Michel Laurent, signed an agreement with Jean-Vernet Henry, rector of the University of Haiti’s Limonade campus, on 17 November.
Researchers at the centre will use satellite images to study the local environment, keeping tabs on deforestation and natural risk. The centre will welcome international scientists, provide training for researchers from Haïti and launch regional environmental research projects.
