French astronaut to fly to ISS

Thomas Pesquet, a French astronaut at the European Space Agency, will take part in a long-duration mission to the International Space Station in 2016.

The assignment was announced on 17 March by ESA’s director-general, Jean-Jacques Dordain.

Before becoming a commercial pilot, Pesquet studied aeronautical and space engineering and worked at the CNES, France’s national space agency. He is one of five ESA astronauts chosen for the mission.
