Two prominent academics and three Socialist Party MPs have been named as possible successors to Geneviève Fioraso, who resigned as secretary of state for research earlier this month.
Among the academics is Marie-Christine Lemardeley, a former president of the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris. Her name was suggested by the newspaper Le Monde immediately after Fioraso’s resignation.
Lemardeley, a former Fulbright scholar whose academic career focused on 20th-century Anglophone literature, resigned from her position at the university in April 2014 to work as education and research adviser to Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris.
