Clinical research on lockdown

A strike by several ethics committees has blocked new clinical trials in France, according to the national biotech industry association.

Six local ethics committees, which are essential for clinical trials to go ahead, are on strike over government plans to tax committee members’ personal allowance of €67 per clinical trial.

In a statement released on 26 March, Pierre-Olivier Goineau, the president of France Biotech, says the situation “will soon make France a desert for clinical research” at a time when French companies in the life sciences are gaining international renown.
