France pledges extra cash for social scientists

France’s national research agency, the ANR, will allocate an additional €8 million to social sciences and humanities in 2017, in an attempt to increase the number of research projects funded.

The measure was announced by the French government on 29 November as one of 13 measures intended to boost research in the area.

A government statement said that the additional funding would allow the ANR to fund between 75 and 80 projects in 2017, which it said was about 50 per cent more than in 2016.
