Government cuts €66m from research budget

The French government has cut €66 million from its 2017 higher education and research spending plan, two weeks after ministers approved the original version.

The government made last-minute adjustments to its overall budget shortly before National Assembly members approved it in a vote on 22 November.

In accordance with the French legislative procedure, each section of the budget is first voted through individually, before a general vote covering the whole budget is taken. The section on higher education and research was approved on 7 November.
