Government to explain bid failure to Lille university

The president of Lille 2 University will meet with Thierry Mandon, France’s secretary of state for higher education and research, following the Lille Nord University federation’s failed bid to access a €3.1-billion fund under the PIA innovation programme.

The university’s president Xavier Vandendriessche met with the PIA’s governing body, the General Investment Commission (CGI) on 28 January after the Lille university group’s bid in the Idex category, established to turn leading French universities into top global research institutions, was rejected after having been shortlisted.

Vandendriessche told the EducPros website that he had not received “a credible, substantiated or satisfactory answer” from the CGI and had been granted a meeting with Mandon, due to take place on 3 February.
